From the Farm Gate to the Fairway. Life at Terravest.
Repaying the Hospitality
If you've ever had one of our reps knock on your door mid-morning, chances are you've put the jug on. Across New Zealand farms, a cup of tea and a biscuit or two has become something of an unofficial ritual, and honestly, it's one of our favourite parts of the job.
Our team travels a lot of dusty kilometres between farm gates, and the warmth we're met with on the other side means more than most customers probably realise. It's not just the tea. It's the conversation, the trust, and the sense that we're genuinely welcome - not just tolerated - as part of your operation.
So this year, we thought it was time to turn the tables.
We recently held our first-ever golf day as part of a Terravest official opening, and if the day was anything to go by, it won't be the last. gathering customers from around the region for a day off the farm and on the fairway. No agendas. No presentations. Just good company, a bit of friendly competition, and naturally, more than a few cups of tea.
It's a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but for us it carries real meaning. We're in the business of relationships, and relationships need room to breathe beyond invoices and farm visits. An open day and a spot of golf, gives us that space; a chance to say thank you properly, and to enjoy the kind of conversation that doesn't happen when someone's got a mob of cows to shift.
Culture Isn't a Poster on the Wall
While we had everyone together, it got us thinking about what we're actually building here at Terravest, and why it matters.
Good culture is one of those things that's hard to define but immediately obvious when it's missing. It's the reason someone goes the extra mile for a customer when no one's watching. It's why our team picks up the phone on a Friday afternoon. It's the difference between doing the job and genuinely caring about the outcome.
We invest in our culture deliberately, not just at events like the golf day, but every day in how we treat each other, how we communicate with customers, and the standards we hold ourselves to. Because here's the thing: culture doesn't stay inside the company. It radiates outward. The way our team feels about their work shows up in how they show up for you.
When our people are proud of where they work and who they work with, that energy flows directly into the service we provide. We think that's worth protecting, and worth celebrating.
Something New on the Horizon: Cryvex
We're not quite ready to spill everything just yet, but if you've visited us recently, you might have spotted something new on the wall...
Keep an eye on this space. We're excited about what's ahead and can't wait to share more with you very soon.
Moving Day. Wishing Everyone a Safe Season Ahead
Next week marks moving day across much of New Zealand's dairy country, and if ever there was a time the industry holds its breath a little, it's now.
Moving day is one of those uniquely New Zealand things; part logistical puzzle, part community event, part new chapter. New farm managers arriving, outgoing teams wrapping up seasons, and of course, herds making their own journeys to new pastures.
To everyone packing up and moving on, we hope your transition is smooth, your new roads are kind, and that the team waiting on the other end has the kettle on.
To everyone welcoming new staff, you're setting the tone for the season ahead. First impressions matter, and so does the environment people step into. We hope it's a great one.
And to the cows; because when it comes down to it, they're really what this is all about, we hope every animal moving to a new farm finds her feet quickly and settles into a season of good health.
That's not just sentiment. It's good farming. The research is clear: cow health and comfort are foundational to milk production. Stress at moving, changes in feed, unfamiliar environments - these all have real impacts on condition and output. Taking the time to manage transitions well, for both people and animals, pays dividends through the whole season.
So from all of us at Terravest, have a safe move, a smooth start, and a great season ahead. We'll be out on the road again soon, and we look forward to catching up at your place.
(And we'll take that tea with one sugar, thanks.)
